Torre Iberdrola
La Torre Iberdrola es uno de los grandes símbolos del Bilbao contemporáneo. Situada en Abandoibarra, junto a la plaza Euskadi y muy cerca de la ría, su silueta de vidrio se eleva 165 metros sobre la ciudad. Con 41 plantas, es el edificio más alto del País Vasco y uno de los puntos de referencia más visibles del perfil urbano bilbaíno. Fue inaugurada oficialmente el 21 de febrero de 2012 y alberga la sede central de Iberdrola, además de oficinas de numerosas empresas.
El edificio fue diseñado por el prestigioso arquitecto argentino César Pelli, autor también de las famosas Torres Petronas de Kuala Lumpur. Su forma de prisma triangular, con vértices suavemente curvados, cambia de aspecto según el lugar desde el que se observe. La fachada, formada por miles de paneles de vidrio, refleja el cielo, las montañas y los edificios del entorno, integrando la torre en el paisaje de Bilbao.
La Torre Iberdrola representa la profunda transformación de Abandoibarra, una antigua zona industrial convertida en un moderno espacio cultural, empresarial y de ocio. Además, destaca por su diseño sostenible y su eficiencia energética, reconocidos con la certificación LEED Platinum.
The Iberdrola Tower is one of the most recognisable symbols of modern Bilbao. Located in Abandoibarra, next to Plaza Euskadi and very close to the river, its glass façade rises 165 metres above the city. With 41 floors, it is the tallest building in the Basque Country and one of the main landmarks on Bilbao’s skyline. Officially opened on 21 February 2012, it is home to Iberdrola’s global headquarters as well as the offices of several other companies.
The building was designed by renowned Argentine architect César Pelli, who also created the famous Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Its triangular shape, with gently curved edges, changes depending on the viewpoint. The façade, made up of thousands of glass panels, reflects the sky, the surrounding mountains and nearby buildings, helping the tower blend into Bilbao’s urban landscape.
The Iberdrola Tower represents the remarkable transformation of Abandoibarra, once an industrial area and now a modern district dedicated to culture, business and leisure. It is also notable for its sustainable design and energy efficiency, recognised with the prestigious LEED Platinum certification.
