El Estadio de San Mamés es mucho más que el campo del Athletic Club: es un auténtico símbolo de Bilbao y una parte fundamental de la identidad de la ciudad. El estadio actual fue inaugurado en 2013, sustituyendo al histórico San Mamés original (de 1913), y se levanta en el mismo lugar donde durante un siglo latió el corazón rojiblanco. Su diseño, obra del estudio IDOM, ACXT Arquitectos, combina tecnología, sostenibilidad y estética moderna, con una fachada iluminada por miles de paneles LED que cambian de color en función del evento o del equipo.
Con capacidad para más de 53.000 espectadores, el nuevo San Mamés ha sido reconocido con varios premios internacionales por su arquitectura y su innovación, entre ellos el World’s Best New Stadium Award en 2015. Su interior ofrece una experiencia única gracias a su acústica envolvente y la cercanía del público al terreno de juego, algo que mantiene el espíritu del viejo estadio.
Además de acoger los partidos del Athletic Club, San Mamés alberga conciertos, eventos culturales y deportivos internacionales, y cuenta con el Museo del Athletic Club, donde se puede recorrer más de un siglo de historia, leyendas y emociones.

The San Mamés Stadium is much more than the home of Athletic Club — it is a true symbol of Bilbao and a fundamental part of the city’s identity. The current stadium was inaugurated in 2013, replacing the original San Mamés (built in 1913), and stands on the very same site where the red-and-white heart of Bilbao beat for over a century. Designed by the architectural firm IDOM, ACXT Arquitectos, the stadium combines technology, sustainability, and modern aesthetics, with a striking façade illuminated by thousands of LED panels that change color depending on the event or the team.
With a capacity of over 53,000 spectators, the new San Mamés has received multiple international awards for its architecture and innovation, including the World’s Best New Stadium Award in 2015. Inside, it offers a unique experience thanks to its immersive acoustics and the closeness of the fans to the pitch — preserving the intimate atmosphere and spirit of the old stadium.
