Parque del Arenal
El Parque del Arenal es uno de los lugares más emblemáticos y agradables de Bilbao. Situado junto al Teatro Arriaga, a orillas de la ría y a las puertas del Casco Viejo, este espacio verde conecta el Bilbao histórico con el Ensanche moderno. Su historia se remonta al siglo XIX, cuando era una zona portuaria y de comercio fluvial que fue transformada en un elegante paseo ajardinado para el disfrute de los bilbaínos.

Hoy el parque conserva ese aire clásico y tranquilo que invita a pasear, descansar o disfrutar del ambiente local. Sus amplias avenidas sombreadas por plátanos, las fuentes ornamentales con figuras de sirenas y ranas, y sus cuidados jardines lo convierten en un lugar perfecto para hacer una pausa en medio del bullicio urbano.

En el centro destaca el kiosco de música, un símbolo del parque y punto de encuentro habitual donde la Banda Municipal de Bilbao ofrece conciertos al aire libre durante el buen tiempo. A su alrededor se organizan ferias, mercados y eventos culturales, especialmente durante la Aste Nagusia, cuando el Arenal se llena de casetas y actividades festivas.

El parque está dividido en dos niveles: la parte superior, con jardines, bancos y zonas de descanso; y la parte inferior, un agradable paseo junto a la ría desde donde se obtienen vistas preciosas del Puente del Arenal y de los edificios más antiguos del centro.

Arenal Park is one of the most iconic and pleasant spots in Bilbao. Located next to the Arriaga Theatre, on the banks of the river and at the entrance to the Old Town (Casco Viejo), this green space connects historic Bilbao with the modern Ensanche district. Its origins date back to the 19th century, when the area was a busy port and river trading zone later transformed into an elegant promenade for the enjoyment of the city’s residents.

Today, the park retains its classic, peaceful charm, inviting visitors to stroll, rest, or simply enjoy the local atmosphere. Its wide avenues shaded by plane trees, ornamental fountains adorned with figures of mermaids and frogs, and its carefully maintained gardens make it a perfect spot to pause amid the bustle of the city.

At the center stands the music kiosk, a symbol of the park and a popular meeting point where the Bilbao Municipal Band performs open-air concerts during the warmer months. Around it, fairs, markets, and cultural events take place throughout the year, especially during Aste Nagusia, when the Arenal fills with festive stalls and activities.

The park is divided into two levels: the upper area, featuring gardens, benches, and resting zones; and the lower promenade, which runs along the river and offers beautiful views of the Arenal Bridge and some of the city’s oldest buildings.
